1. Hike in the Monteverde Cloud Forest
Come in early, get a trail map and begin your hiking adventure inside the cloud forest. Don’t forget your binoculars because you will need it. Try spotting exotic birds and reptiles on the trees and plants; they are almost always camouflaged. Parts of the trail offer scenic viewpoints of the panoramic valley which looks completely green. Parts of the trail have waterfalls. There is a suspension bridge as well, not as long and high as the ones that you would see in Arenal, but still good. Click here for more info.
2. Visit the Tree House Restaurant and Café
I wouldn’t recommend dining here, since I was served raw meat twice when I asked for a steak cooked to medium rare. Anyway, it was at least nice that they accepted my request to cancel the order. Nevertheless, it is listed as one of the world’s weirdest restaurants, so I had to come here to check out its quirkiness.
3. Book a coffee tour and educate yourself about coffee
Had coffee from Panera Bread? And you like them? Well, they get their coffee beans from Costa Rica and other countries. My husband and I are big java fans, so for obvious reasons we were really interested to learn about how the coffee plants look like, how the coffee beans are produced and imported. The tour is very educational. At the end, they let us try different kinds of coffee and helped us understand what light, medium and dark roast actually mean.
4. Zip-line through the verdant cloud forest
Don’t skip this one! We booked a zip-lining tour at the Selvatura Park. You’ll get the experience of a bird gliding through the greenery all around. Pure adrenaline rush! And the optional tarzan jump, ooooh, it lived up its hype! Click here for more info.
